Epilepsy Foundation in Association with National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) conducts regular Monthly Camp in Maharashtra for detection and treatment of epilepsy.
Our last Camp was on 08th April, 2012 at Civil Hospital, Jawahar (Thane).

The epilepsy camp at jawhar was my first foray into any tribal area.To see the lack of basic medical and investigative procedures in the same country which boasts of cutting edge surgical and investigative techniques was an eye opener. It was sad to see that people with manageable diseases do not get access to even an MD physician; at the same time it was exhilarating to see them get access to superspeciality consultants , that is, some of the best consultants in neurology in Mumbai.I really appreciate the fact that such highly sought after consultants took time out to help people and children and traveled all the way to meet them.I think we made a dramatic impact on the life of those people especially children who without treatment would have had troubling seizures and difficulty in adjusting in society and who now with the right treatment will have a near normal life . Those children who would have become social pariahs have the potential to do anything now.

At the same time we saw lot of children with mental retardation or global developmental delay whom we knew we were too late to cure them now; many of these people who cant take care of themselves would have been normal , functioning, smart individuals if only their mothers had received proper medical attention before, during and after their delivery.
This showed us that there is a lot to be done yet.
If all the senior consultants in Mumbai in various specialties followed the example of the doctors present that day and took just one Sunday out from their practice even once or twice a year they could change the lives of such underprivileged people.
I am thankful to you sir that you gave me the opportunity to come along and learn under the guidance of such a stellar team of doctors.
