SIMSREE runs in support for the dream of The Epilepsy Foundation

Sunday, 15^th Jan 2012 saw a new spirit of Mumbai. Over 30,000 Mumbaikars woke up to a morning filled with the enthusiasm and joy of running. The students of SIMSREE were in the forefront of the dream run, as they ran to promote Epilepsy Foundation that is a non- profitable charitable organisation working for the cause of people suffering from epilepsy.

 The SIMSREE contingent saw a turnout of over 90 students who along with other members as well as patients of the Epilepsy foundation formed one of the most enthusiastic team at the Mumbai Marathon. The 7 km long dream run proved to be hardly a challenge to the students from SIMSREE, who kept shouting slogans related to epilepsy awareness throughout the marathon.  The marathon experience was truly delightful for SIMSREE as they managed to have fun and more importantly also promote a noble cause. 

While SIMSREE has always been an active supporter of social causes, through the marathon we have taken our association one step ahead and proved that along with being among the best B-Schools, we are also the most socially responsible one. We are also grateful to Dr. Nirmal Surya, for all his support towards us. SIMSREE looks forward for more opportunities to show our humanitarian side.

National Epilepsy Day special awareness programme on 17.11.2011

'मिरगी'बाबत अंधश्रद्धेऐवजी योग्य उपचारांना प्राधान्य द्यावे : छगन भुजबळ यांचे आवाहन

मुंबई, दि. 17 नोव्हेंबर : मिरगी या रोगाच्या बाबतीत अंधश्रद्धेच्या आहारी न जाता योग्य वैद्यकीय उपचारांना नागरिकांनी प्राधान्य द्यावे, असे आवाहन राज्याचे सार्वजनिक बांधकाम व पर्यटन मंत्री छगन भुजबळ यांनी आज सकाळी येथे केले.
राष्ट्रीय मिरगी दिनाच्या (नॅशनल एपिलेप्सी डे) निमित्ताने महाराष्ट्र राज्य आरोग्य सोसायटी, एपिलेप्सी फाऊंडेशन आणि नोवार्टिस यांच्या संयुक्त विद्यमाने आज येथील चर्चगेट स्थानकावर जनजागृती अभियानाचे आयोजन करण्यात आले होते. या अभियानाचे उद्घाटन श्री. भुजबळ यांच्या हस्ते करण्यात आले. त्यावेळी ते बोलत होते. राज्याचे सार्वजनिक आरोग्य मंत्री सुरेश शेट्टी प्रमुख पाहुणे म्हणून उपस्थित होते.

मिरगीसंदर्भात जनजागृती अभियानाचे आयोजन केल्याबद्दल आयोजकांचे अभिनंदन करून श्री. भुजबळ म्हणाले की, मिरगी या रोगाच्या बाबतीत जनमानसात अनेक अंधश्रद्धा आहेत. भूतबाधा, प्रेतबाधा, दुष्ट शक्तींचा प्रभाव आणि त्याही पुढे जाऊन संबंधित व्यक्तीला वेडे ठरविण्याकडे लोकांचा कल असतो. रोगाच्या निराकरणासाठी अघोरी मार्गांचा वापर केला जातो. त्याचप्रमाणे मिरगी आलेल्या व्यक्तीला तातडीचे उपचार म्हणून कांद्याचा, चपलांचा वास देण्याचाही प्रयोग केला जातो. परंतु या सर्व गोष्टी चुकीच्या आहेत. त्याऐवजी योग्य वैद्यकीय उपचारांना लोकांनी प्राधान्य देण्याची गरज आहे. नियमित उपचारांनी हा रोग नियंत्रणात राहतो आणि बराही होऊ शकतो.
सार्वजनिक आरोग्य मंत्री सुरेश शेट्टी यांनीही मिरगीविषयीच्या भ्रामक समजुतींना थारा न देता वैद्यकीय उपचारांनाच प्राधान्य द्यावे, असे आवाहन यावेळी केले.
या कार्यक्रमास मुंबई भाजप प्रदेशाध्यक्ष राज पुरोहित, एपिलेप्सी फाऊंडेशनचे डॉ. निर्मल सूर्या, कैलास अग्रवाल, राकेश मेहता आदी उपस्थित होते.

About Epilepsy Foundation

The Epilepsy foundation is a Nonprofit Organization for the cause of patients suffering from Epilepsy. Epilepsy (Fits) is a disease of Brain where person looses consciousness for few seconds to few minutes. There are over 1 million people suffering from this disease in India and it can stuck at any age, however it is more prevalent in younger population. There are lots of myth & taboo around this disease. The disease is chronic and disabling requiring very long treatment and some time lifelong therapy. Many new drugs and surgical treatment are available but few doctors know about that and very few centre in country have this facility. Epilepsy Foundation dedicated solely to the welfare of the millions of people with epilepsy in the India and their families. The organization works to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences to improve how people with epilepsy are perceived, accepted and valued in society and to promote research for a cure. The Epilepsy Foundation was established in 2009 as the Epilepsy Foundation Free Epilepsy Clinic has been started in 1992 with the aim of helping the poor and needy patients, suffering from epilepsy and not able to consult a doctor for a regular therapy. From 2000 onwards Free Epilepsy Clinic has moved to Surya Neuro Center every Tuesday at 1 p.m. Regular camps for detection and treatment of this disease is been held in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan so far.
